Esko's passion for versatile business
Mr. Esko Tapojärvi started his business October 27th 1955 by buying his own Popeda and started working as a taxi-driver. Driving taxi was fun and first transportation agreement was made with school board of Muonio and the agreement involved transportation of students in Kihlanki -school. Business suffered a minor setback when the school burned down and the first assignment was to take the teacher to the hospital.
Still the business continued and later on it came time to take care of delivering milk in the area of western Lapland to Valio in Kaukonen, Kittilä. Delivering was mostly done with two vehicles. In addition to this, delivering of dirt for road constructions around Lapland, especially Highway 21, came in to picture.
Dynamic 70's
In 1966 Esko transferred to Helsinki to transport gravel with Tauno Valo (the so called Hyrylä Fighters). In 1972 transportation of underground quarry was started as Esko was called to cover for in Rautuvaara mine. The covering for continued for 16 years. In this time the number of vehicles and equipment grew and the increasing demands of subscribers where replied by developing different functions.
Discreet growth during 80's and 90's
In April 11th 1980, business name was changed to Maansiirtoliike Tapojärvi Ky. Esko was the main stock holder and oldest son Markku came along as a business partner. Daughters Jaana and Pirjo came along as silent members.
A company of single car, grew to be an enterprise of 10-15 vehicles. As the company grew, change of company type came as a topical issue. Company type was changed in to corporation June 21st 1995 and a change of generation was also conducted as companies Veljekset Tapojärvi Oy and Maansiirtoliike Tapojärvi Oy where migrated. July 7th 2000, corporations name was changed to Tapojärvi Oy.
Strong and versatile Tapojärvi in the 21st century
The roots of Tapojärvi are still in Lapland. The company is registered in Kolari, where it's roots reach. Nowadays the company is specialized in factory services and mining. Tapojärvi has given up excavation work since the 90's when the development to manage these services independently started.
