Tapojärvi Innovation Challenge seeks new circular economy innovations across Europe

In the past, Tapojärvi has organised industrial circular economy innovation competitions for students in Finland. This year, the competition invites new innovations from all over Europe.

The aim of the competition is to increase students’ understanding of the challenges of industrial circular economy and to help them come up with sustainable solutions to harness industrial side streams through new product and service innovations.

– By further challenging future makers to innovate new circular economy solutions, we can make a positive difference for the environment on an industrial scale and thus improve the lives of Europeans through cleaner environment,” says Mari Pilventö, Acting CEO of Tapojärvi.

Tapojärvi is working together with EIT RawMaterials with the goal of making the Innovation Challenge bigger. EIT RawMaterials’ mission is to support European industry in securing a sustainable raw materials supply by promoting innovation in the raw materials value chain.

Tapojärvi Innovation Challenge seeks novel solutions for extracting valuable substances from waste or side streams in three areas of the raw materials industry: Stainless steel, Mining and Forest industry.

The call addresses teams consisting of two-to-four students with innovative ideas to reduce the environmental impact of these industries. The best teams will receive additional training on their solution from industry experts and compete for the chance to win a prize of €10 000.

The deadline for submitting the ideas for the competition is 14 April 2023.
